Florianopolis Day 3 – North of the Island and Downtown
On the third day in Florianopolis in the southern state of ‘Santa Catarina’ – Brazil, you can visit other northern beaches of the island, starting from the ‘Praia do Forte’ beach, accessed by a small road on the lefthand corner of the Jurerê Beach. It is a beach with a familiar and very quiet atmosphere. There you can take advantage of visiting the ‘Sao Jose da Ponta Grossa’ fort, that was part of the early defense system mounted on the island of Santa Catarina. After you can visit the Jurerê International Beach, the most expensive address in town, with dozens of luxurious mansions and trendy bars on the boardwalk.
Try some lunch at the historic district of St. Anthony of Lisbon (Antonio de Lisboa), a small neighborhood with houses in the Azorean style that played an important role in the city’s history. There are several restaurants by the sea, overlooking the city. To get in the neighborhood, just pick up the SC-401 highway towards the center and exit at the first clover right off the disabled toll plaza.
The suggestion for the end of this afternoon is to stroll down the pier region of Av. Beira-Mar Norte, downtown, and walk till the Ponte Hercílio Luz, the city’s postcard. Near the bridge is the Fort Santana, along with a small museum of the military police, a site that yields good pictures. Before that, if you have time, make a quick visit to the center, to see the Public Market, the plaza XV de Novembro and the Metropolitan Cathedral of Florianópolis.
Hot tip! The script of this day can be done vice – versa, starting the tour in the center and ending the day on the Jurerê sands.
