Yellow fever vaccination accelerated in Carnival regions of Brazil 2018

Yellow fever vaccine to be extended in the biggest Carnival cities in Brazil.

Rio, Salvador and São Paulo are to have extended vaccine schemes for the local population this summer due to insurgence of the disease.  So if your planning to come to Brazil/South America for the 2018 Carnival best reassure your covered, and if you haven’t got your YF shot remember that the the vaccine is only effective as for 10 days from the shot.

Over 700 cases this summer

The Panamerican Health Organisation rated this year high as one the largest in decades. Over 700 cases have been confirmed in Brazil this year with over 200 deaths. The ageing vaccine population and a portion of the population not vaccined could explain part of the case rises.

Recognise the symptoms

Yellow fever is an acute infectious disease of short duration (maximum 10 days), and Africa. The symptoms are: fever, headache, chills, nausea, vomiting, body aches, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) and bleeding (of the gums, nose, stomach, intestine and urine). The rarer and most violent cases of the disease can lead to death.
