10 – CHAPADA DOS VEADEIROS NATIONAL PARK
Brazils’ famous for its beaches, the Amazon and the lavish wildlife, but a great portion of brazilians and foreign travelers are exploring the hundreds of lavish falls in the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park in the outback state of Goiás.
INCREDIBLE SCENARIO ALL AROUND
The whole scenario of the ‘Chapada’ is just incredible and whether on bike, car or foot the awe of nature is ever present and the overwhelming sense of joy catches on everyone. Visitors usually chose the town of Alto Paraiso (high paradise) or the small village of Sao Jorge – which sits just at the National Park entrance – to stay at the chapada.
TREKKINGS – BIKING – BALLOONING
Though a great underground escape in the past the Chapada has steadily intensified its touristic infrastructure and now has accommodations and services for all tastes and pockets. Typical popular dishes, sushi, vegan and several food-trucks are all available; also bike-rentals, helicopter tours and ballooning are available -depending on the season. Day tours and multiple day tours are also possible – guides usually assort at the town centers or at some restaurants in the early morning so clients can form the small groups and leave for the falls. Though it could be interesting to make reservations prior to arriving to spare the hassle.
FUN FOR ALL AGES
From small pools for baby play to giant 400 feet falls the chapada has it all including long 20 km hikes with the optional camping night available. But the average trek to the falls is usually from a kilometre to 02 km making it a place where children and eldearly can also enjoy themselves. There are hundreds of cataloged falls many of them don’t need guides for visiting but some of the most distant falls need motor transport and guidance of experienced locals – so check what the necessity is before you start off.
Prices have been hiking over the past few years but cheaper deals can be found and campings and all sorts of hostels and B&B are popping up so you probably won’t have problems. Christmas, New Year, Carnival are very busy times in any touristic site in Brazil so if your traveling in this period it’s best you book ahead! Great Travels!
